We recently sat down with one of our favourite interior influencers, Chloe, otherwise known as @oursevernhouse.

 

Chloe chatted to us about her unique style, her DIY skills, and why she chose California Shutters for one of her latest décor projects.

Can you give us a bit of background info about yourself and your home? 

A self taught DIY mum of 3, slowly renovating our new family home. After spending 6 years decorating and updating our last home, I realised I had a huge love for DIY and Victorian homes.

 

How would you describe your personal taste in décor?

We love a mix of old and new pieces in our home, and making them work together. I’m a huge fan of patterns and textures, as well as practicality. I believe in selecting high quality items that last.

Do you have a favourite room or space in your home?

Our newly decorated lounge is our favourite room to be in. It is a warm inviting space, for the kids to play in during the day, and in the evening a cosy relaxing area. Our California Cafe Style Shutters give us privacy from people passing by, whilst looking beautiful both inside and out!

 

What made you choose California Shutters for your home?

Having researched California Shutters online, I was confident that they would be a great choice for our new home. Being able to see their shutters in real homes really helped me to envisage what would work best for us, as well as the range of shutter styles and colours.

 

How confident are you at DIY?

I am a confident DIYer, having self-taught over the last 6 years. I find the feeling of completing projects or tasks in your own home really satisfying! 

How easy were the shutters to install. Any challenges specific to your property?

Having an older property, it can be hard to find bespoke fitting shutters whilst retaining original features and character to the house. Being able to order easy fit no drill shutters, that are made to measure, was the perfect solution for a tricky bedroom window! Using just an Allen key to secure the frame into the recess made fitting a breeze! 

 

What difference did the shutters make to your room?

We love how easy the shutters are to tilt throughout the day for different light and privacy, as well as being easy to keep clean.

What would you say is your favourite thing about your DIY shutters?

I love how well our shutters work in our period home, being both practical and beautiful. I had always been envious walking past other properties and seeing fitted shutters, so I’m delighted that we now have that curb appeal!

 

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking about installing shutters but is unsure?

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to fit the plantation shutters in our home. Whether you are confident with DIY like me, or more of a novice, just follow the measuring and installation guides on the California Shutters website and you will soon be fitting shutters like a pro!
